Day in the life of a pupil at UBPS

Reception - Early Years
 
School is open from 8:45am - parents are welcome to bring their children into the cloakroom and the classroom, especially if they want to pass on some information to one of the adults in the EYs team.
 
Registration is 8:55am - 9:00am
 
Snack time is around 10:20am - fruit is provided and so is milk if you have requested it
 
Lunch time begins at 11:45am - every child in Reception is entitled to a free hot school meal which is provided by Chartwells. There is a choice between two dishes and one is vegetarian. Children also have access to vegetables, fruit, pudding and a drink. You can still provide your child with a packed lunch. All children sit in the Main Hall and eat their lunch together.
 
Afternoon starts at 1:00pm
 
School finishes at 3:10pm - The teachers will bring your children out to meet you and will not let them leave until they have seen their adults who will be collecting them.
 
Reception Team operate a free flow system with direct teaching interspersed with self-initiated learning. We have a superb outside environment that was developed in 2013 to complement our recognised Outstanding Early Years unit.
KS2 - Years 3&4 and Years 5&6
 
School is open from 8:45am 
 
Registration is 8:55am - 9:00am Any child arriving after registration will need to go to the School Office and will be marked in late on the school register.
 
Snack time is around 10:40 - 10:55am - We are a healthy school and request that children only have fruit or vegetables for snack.
 
Lunch time begins at 12:00pm - You can request your child to have a hot school meal which is provided by Chartwells. There is a choice between two dishes, with one being a vegetarian option. Children also have access to vegetables, fruit, pudding and a drink. You can provide your child with a healthy packed lunch if you would prefer. Children in Years 5&6 eat their packed lunch in their classrooms or outside if the weather is reasonable. Children who have hot school meals in Years 5&6 eat with our younger children to model good eating habits. Some of the Years 5&6 children also help out in the Main Hall. Years 3&4 children all sit in the Main Hall and eat their lunch together, unless it is good weather and then packed lunches will eat outside.
 
Afternoon starts at 1:00pm
 
School finishes at 3:15pm - Years 3&4 teachers will release the children at their external classroom door. If children are unable to find their adult to go home with at an arranged meeting point, they are asked to go back to the class teacher. 
 
KS2 has a structured day. Every day children will experience English, Maths and Guided Reading. PE is timetabled twice a week, and Computing, French and Music once a week. The rest of the day will cover all other curriculum subjects. We have a creative curriculum and make links across subjects. We strongly believe in giving learning a purpose and context, enabling children to apply skills across the curriculum.

School finishes at 3:15pm - The teachers will release the children at the external classroom door and will not let them leave until they have seen their adult(s) who will be collecting them. If a different adult than usual is collecting them, please let their class teacher know.
